I've always love BMWs, my uncle had an E36 318i Touring when I was a kid and I loved it, that was where my obsession with them began. Over the years I've liked pretty much every BMW made, some took a few years for me to grow to like but even the modern ones still get my appreciation. Out of all those cars though, there were 2 that really stood out to me as special cars, the E60 M5 and the E90 M3. In my opinion a golden era of BMW design and build quality. These two in particular attracted me because of their (perhaps vague) links to the BMW F1 involvement at the time, the nerd in me loved it.

I had one of these for twelve months and it was absolutely brilliant. I test drove it against a 991.1 Carrera and it felt much quicker and better put together. Slightly slower than a Carrera S mind. It replaced an R35 GT-R and was more relaxing to drive and cost half as much to run (which was important with a long commute). They're not a car for you if you're obsessed by big numbers and 0-60 times (though they're not slow), but they are definitely more than the sum of their parts. Massively misunderstood. It's not a sports car to drive on its door handles, it's an eye catching GT for daily us

Everything about this car from the front to the back and the steering wheel to the headrests is just plain ugly, can’t imagine this will be a success for BMW, who seem to taking Renaults former spot of building the most unspectacular cars in Europe - the Chinese must be laughing all the way to the bank….

I'm not (quite) 70 yet but remember him being described as the best driver to never win an F1 title, and it was great to se him drive that SLR at the FOS with Jenks in the navigator seat many years ago. But being a proud Scot my Dad always rated Jim Clarke as the best!

Oddly enough I haven't driven the new 718 EV so my comments are based on the US version of the Model 3 Performance...The steering is perhaps the best thing about the 996 and the steering of the M3P is not as good. It is however better than many modern cars. It is precise and not numb, but it is not the wriggling delight of an empty 996 with an aggressive alignment.The engine of the 996 is increasingly enthusiastic at higher revs and it does wail nicely but saying it's `increasingly enthusiastic' is the just another way of saying it lacks torque at low engine speeds.
