These days any 20 year old with a decent job / living at home can afford an M / RS / AMG version on finance. There's also far fewer around, mainly because despite the performance aspect it's still an old Ford underneath and will rust like anything else. Even back in the day you'd hardly ever see one around, as a kid it was something special when I d

My views on the 996 (well the headlamps) are softening. But only if the headlamps are crystal clear like on this one. I've seen too many that have faded and make the car look like it has two big brown blobs on the bonnet. This looks a good 'un!

Do people really sell discs they claim are good despite being used? Appreciate there are upgrades that may lead to that but seems.... Interesting.

Predicably most people have missed the point of the thread. Its not to identify future classics but to identify future cult cars, that is cars that a small number of people are very enthusiastic about but the majority of people go meh to.The aforementioned Skoda Yeti might be in with a shout, as might the Citroen C4 Cacti. The few of us who owned a Peugeot 406 coupe knew they were wonderful but that hasn't been reflected in values although I notice the owners club is still going strong. amongst EVs I think the Ionic 5 might become a cult because of it's size and looks as might the Polestar 2 be

They look utterly naff on a narrowbody car. Thanks - they aren't 100% in keeping I suppose but I quite like them. I think the wheels are 996.2 regular variety (were certainly on the 40th anniversary cars) so are stock, in answer to post just above.

With a bit of help from AI, the definition of a "cult car" is "a vehicle that inspires fierce, passionate loyalty and a dedicated following among a specific group of enthusiasts, often despite mainstream indifference, quirky design, or practical flaws".The 3 examples that it gives are the DeLorean, Volkswagen Type 2 and Citroen 2CV. Whereas I agree with the DeLorean, I don't necessarily agree with the other two, as I would say that maybe they were a bit too popular/commercially successful? Something like the Austin Allegro seems to sit with that definition a bit better?Skoda would seem like

Had a C reg one of these back in 96 / 97 and absolutely loved it.Always felt special, revved to the moon and was always reliable. By the time I got it, it already had rust on the rear arches and needed welding to get through it's MOT. Not sure I'd want to spend £20k for a trip down memory lane, but a lovely thing to have owned in my early 20's.

It's torquey/quick, and it doesn't hammer you on fuel if you drive it steady either. The range isn't anywhere near as awful as my V8 M3 was as well. That is one advantage with modern turbos. They're quite economical. The chap who looks after my M3 has a F90 M5 and regularly gets in the 30s mpg with it. I did briefly consider a F10 M5 as he had one of those too that did similar mpg but maintenance is a killer and as I sit at 70 or less on dual carriageway

Just read the whole thread from start to finish and thoroughly enjoyed it.Seemingly a challenging car to own, but for a man with your capabilities certainly more of an option than a ham fisted git such as myself. Please keep updating the thread, I have bookmarked it now.

So, Aston gone but not forgotten (journal here) https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... plan was to be really diligent, get rid of all the left over bits, finish the e36, sell that, then make a move with a clean budget and a space in the shed.I have poor self control and no sooner had one gone than the need for the dopamine hit started to make me tweak pretty badly, scrolling autotrader like a crackhead eyeing up a back alley dealer. So, following on from the Aston martin which everyone was convinced would be horribly unreliable i bought a Mclaren, which everyone has told me will

So this is a new addition to the garage. It is the Roadsport model with the 1.8 K-series engine with 140bhp and the optional LSD. It has only done 4500 miles since 2002, so it needs a little bit of recommissioning and the tyres are from 2001 for example. So once I've sorted a few bits and bobs on it, I will be able to start enjoying it. I'm excited about it because I've never had a performance car that has been lighter than 1100kg, so it is definitely something a fair bit different to what I'm used to. Here is a pic of me collecting it, and a couple of it in the garage too. I will update when

Its crap to cut, crap to weld, and even crapper to weld to stainless. The only advice I can give is that best practise to join inconel 625 and Stainless is to use an Inconel 625 filler rod. Not that many people have that lying around though. You did as good a job as someone who is not a thin wall inconel welder could have expected t
