I have a similar car 2005 SL350 3.7 5 speed auto. Probably the "safest" R230 to put your money into. Bought mine in Feb 2025 Black with pano roof, upgraded hi-fi with carplay and lowish £445 road tax. less than 80k miles and full service history for double the shed price.They are a great car. I had at the time an R107 500SL and a R129 SL320, still have the R107 but the R230 drives much better than an R129 IMHO and so I sold the 129.I would pull up a bit more cash and buy a better car fully functioning rather than this one as stated above. You get to know cars when you've owned a few versions and you can separate a lot of internet truth from the facts.Starting with my earlier comment, which can be paraphrased as tired versions really shouldn't be bought by poor plebs, some parts are very expensive and this should surprise no-one. If you want cheap Mercedes parts, buy an old C180 or similar. If you want to run 20 year old, £70K new, complex car with 100,000 miles on the clock with no faults and for peanuts, wake up and smell the coffee.Next, no-one forces anyone to buy a car like this. It's not like needing a replacement car to get to the shops and back or for a daily commute, where there are thousands of simple, reliable and cheap cars to choose from. You choose a car like this for very different reasons. So what I'm saying is that if you buy a car like this and moan, do go away and lease a Kia.Specifics. The ABC suspension is only 'ruinous' if you buy a car with existing faults, balls it up trying to repair it yourself or take it to a main dealer. It is perfectly possible to buy a car with no suspension issues and it is not 'a certainty' that they will develop. A direct comparison would be the legendary Porsche issues of IMS/RMS failures and bore score. Anyone getting their info from youtube reviewing tts would expect to see Boxsters, Caymans and 911s littering the streets when the reality is that Porsche make probably the most reliable performance cars on the
