Going forward it can only be expected that Gordons input gets watered down more and more until the company is a generic supercar company, with no race pedigree

My objection is to artificial shortages cynically contrived to squeeze the market.Re McLaren games, I agree. Some years ago I got into a row with McLaren about that. The CEO at the time declared publicly, and the company confirmed privately, that they absolutely, positively would make no more than 500 675 LTs and they would be only coupes. After they had received customer deposits for all 500 cars, they surprised us by announcing the 675 LT spider, of which they ended up making more than 500 additional cars. I made my dissatisfaction sufficiently clear that they invited me down to MTC where they admitted that, at the senior level, that had been the plan all along and they apologised. More recently there has been intense competition over allocations for W1s, W1 spiders, and 788 LTs, a scramble which has been quite unedifying. For a long time Porsche did not indulge in the artificial limit thing but now they do it as well. Scarcity is part of market value, but is unrelated to intrinsic value. I consider artificial scarcity to be a form of market manipulation. I am glad that it is legal because, relative to other issues, banning it would add almost nothing to the public interest, but that doesn't mean that I have to approve of it. In most instances lying is also legal. I wouldn't make it illegal, but I don't have to like it. It may be the case, in the jousting between company and market, that if you placed an expensive car on 'unlimited' sale, that you could sell 50 of them. That being just how many people wanted one at the stated price, within the given terms. But if you made it a limited edition of 60, then you might be able to sell them all. Ten people who didn't want one when there could conceivably end up being 500 of them out there are persuaded to buy the 51st-60th examples, because the guaranteed scarcity is an addi

A few years ago I saw Porsche 992 racers on 18", which looked ridiculous. So I asked why?Because they drive so much better on 18" sir.OK, I'll have a JAS Tensei NSX on 18" please...

Evo also seem to have their figures muddled up too - the average RR isn't £200k and in the latest magazine they say the Type 01 starts at under £100k and average £125k plus the weight is wrong. Not sure what's happened with their research.
