What I don't miss from those days however, was how much the interior of a BMW advertised the boxes you didn't tick as much as the ones you did. No OBC? A simple clock for you. Didn't fork out extra for a radio? Here have a plastic panel. Only got the weedy engine? Here, a single small exhaust pipe for you. It's much harder to check these days what a BMW has from a distance, also helped by the fact they aren't quite as stingy as they used to be. Plus I have fond memories of the OBC on an E36 - it introduced me to BMW's 3 degrees bong This one is missing a couple of cylinders and some kit for me. A 320i manual with the OBC would be a lovely thing to smoke around in. I've only owned BMWs since 2005 so by then they all came with a stereo fitted, an OBC and no blanks. But I do get the bongs! They even fitted twin tail-pipes to weedy 320ds in the 2010s to try to confuse us! But why can they only tell you there is light out and not which one? I bought a 1985 Ford Scorpio 2.8i in 1990 that had a graphic showing which bulb wasn't working and had way more gadgetry that any BMW I've owned, like a heated front screen and electric reclining rear seats.

And another thing... those people who drive at 25 in a 30, then 35 in a 40, and 40 or 45 in a 60 and brake on gentle corners. They should be legally mandated, if it is true, to carry a big sign in the back window saying "I'm one of those ****s who speeds up the moment you might be able to overtake. BE WARNED."And another thing. The only benefit of these uber-dawdlers is that when you get stuck behind a tractor instead of getting angry you can really sympathize that he is going as fast as he can and still not going any slower than a significant number of car drivers.

As an ex-2CV owner, I like the exterior, interior less so, too Early Learning Centre for me. This wouldn't get a push-pull manual gearbox or umbrella-style handbrake, but the seats could be done better (including fabric):

To my eyes, that design screams “make me in a shooting brake version!”
