Volvo used to have overlapping product cycles back when it was independent, and the 850 replaced the 700/900 series, not the 200 series.

sharkattack said: I love these things and I totally 'get it'. They seemed ferociously fast back in the day and it was easy to unlock 300bhp.Unfortunately I was a passenger in one recently (manual, tuned, choo choo noises) and it just felt antiquated. Which is to be expected but it made me reassess my desire to own one.My current daily is a VRS 245 wagon and there's absolutely no way I'd swap it for the T5. The Skoda is a keeper.Edited by sharkattack on Saturday 22 August 07:38 Can resonate with this. A friend had a T-5 in 2008 and it felt like a rocket the first time I drove it. I then had a modified T-5 in around 2009/10 and that felt sensational at that time. It was mapped, and had the "R" front bumper and wheels, but was the CD model so was well-equipped and had full leather. I recall hanging onto the back of an M3 up to silly speeds and just giggling, it was a proper thing.About 5 years later, after owning a few newer cars, I went in a standard T-5 and it definitely felt a bit old-hat by that point. It would be fascinating to try one now. I'd also like to try one of the phase 2 V70 T5s (or an R), to see how they compare. I'm sure cars like your Skoda are much better in every way in reality, but the T-5 will always be a legend.I know people fawn over the yellow cars, but I'd have a later 850R, preferably in red and definitely manual. The three-pedal R is the one to have in reality, as it has a limited-slip diff as standard and a bigger turbo, so it's a better car than the T-5R, even if it doesn't have quite the same reputation.
