Owned the R50 a grand total of 10 days and it's already off the road. Drove it back and forth to work for 3 days, a total of 6 journeys totalling a maximum of 20minutes each. With each journey, the whine on the gearbox got louder and louder, by day 3, it was jumping out of 3rd gear, only when warm interestingly.With the evidence pointing to the gearbox being in the process of lunching itself, I decided to not drive it any further. This is quite a painful decision because, dispite the noise, the car feels tight and 'chuckable', certainly very fun to drive. It also means I needed to get the Astra back on the road ASAP.The Astra, having dumped all it's coolant via a split T-piece continued to give me grief. The whole 4 part hose was replaced (3 hoses and T-piece), however, it refused to bleed. I've never had an issue bleeding the Z18XER engine before, so this pointed to something being amiss. Before buying the R50, I had ended up just driving the Astra back and forth to work in the hope it would bleed itself, which it seemed to do, to a point. The heater was toasty warm, the radiator appeared to be warm, the pipe from the thermostat was very warm at the top, not as warm at the bottom, but I wasn't getting any thermostat related error codes (it's electrically controlled), the temp would bounce around from about 87 to 108 and back and eventually climb to the point where the fan comes on, but the temp would not lower.I've ended up replacing the thermostat and for belt and braces, the water pump in case any damage was done to it from running dry, I also flushed the radiator to make sure it's not blocked.First bleed wasn't showing hopeful signs, yet subsequent bleeds were much more like the behaviour I'm used to: - temp climbs to 105 - thermostat opens - temp drops back to 99 - temp climbs to 111 - the fan comes on - temp d
