The King? Almost.As it turned out it was a family from Guildford who used it to travel to Gibraltar and back for 17 years. I spoke to them.It was rust free with over 20 stamps in the book.However it came with a slipping clutch (declared) and a list of jobs I wanted done to make it like new and reliable . As advised by LR Time including thicker oil and an upgraded fuel pump.So off it went to the Land-Rover man for a list I made including Clutch, flywheel, suspension bushes, spring conversion, belts, oils, filters, handbrake and a load of other jobs. That was £3,700 incl VAT. Best money I have ever spent.So it is less that £5k so it qualifies.A set of 2022 Defender steels with new All Terrain Tyre's was £1,500 3 years ago.It has been faultless since then, services every year. It is like having a pet dog.So comfortable so good at towing. 7 seats that get used. The build quality is excellent. Feels like it was made out of stone.32 mpg on a run. The gearbox is the same unit as on a BMW M2, Lovely change. It is fun to drive. 80 mph at 2,000 rpm.I have owned over 12 defenders, this is in a different league.We love it.I know they are everywhere and you cant give them away at the moment, but have a long term view.I remember the market for Defenders in the early 90s. You could not give them away. Like the LR3 now.I think the Early LR 3 is the one to get now and enjoy for along time.(Not the LR4 though!)Good story. Glad it’s serving you well. I love the style of the Discovery 3, and low spec + manual gearbox
