Later told it's much easier to just smash the clasp inside the locking mechanism using a chunky flat head screwdriver.

Obviously there is an element in society that adjust the mileage on these so they do higher miles but then adjust it back down before handing it back so there is no penalty and they can also go over the service interval mileage but then get this all reset also.
