I had a V8 R8 which had a unique quirk to pass noise regulations. Testing at the time was done by getting to the line with microphones at exactly 50kph in 3rd gear and going full throttle. The R8 was presumably too loud to pass in this regime so rather than...fixing it by making it quiet, what they did was if you put your foot down at 50kph in 3rd it just wouldn't accelerate. Apparently if you complained to the dealer at the time the response would be "why weren't you in 2nd?".
