Funny you should write that, a very bizarre thing.Sitting having a delightful meal of wonderful seafood and a gorgeous bottle of Sancerre in a typically Dieppe harbourside restaurant last Tuesday evening. France were playing in the World cup later that evening. There were a lot of the local 'yoof' doing their, seemingly, pointless laps around the harbour. One was in a diesel Seat (possibly a Leon), i

If you can't afford to run a car and keep it safe, which includes it's emissions, then you don't get to run a car. The same people also run tyres with the cords poking out and brake pads down to the backing plate until the MOT man stops them and this is exact;y the same, it's just that the consequences of this aspect of their cheap ass running of the car on others aren't as immediately obvious as bald tyres and knackered brakes. Also a lot of people running nasty smoke belching emissions control defeated diesels could indeed afford to fix them, they're just skinflints.I agree to some extent but I don't believe everyone is doing these things because they would rather spend their money on other things or just can't be ar$ed to do it properly. I'm sure plenty are like that but I don't think it's everyone. Despite their reputation there are many people who have no clue about DPFs, Adblue etc. I recently joined a FB group for the type of cars that are not enthusiast owned and people are still hugely naive. Genuinely shocked at the cost of a new Adblue tank or DPF. I suppose the other side of the environmental coin is throwing a car away because the Adblue system needs ยฃ2k of repairs and the car is worth ยฃ3-4k. DPF is one thing but Adblue removal makes a 2014 car no worse than a 2013.
