Although maybe scarily fast for a few on here!Problem is an out of control car today is much heavier and bigger and bad drivers then have been replaced by bad drivers today. in many cases they are worse due to phone distractions, complex car controls etc.Yes its worse because modern cars are so capable with too often unskilled drivers but the on board skid control systems mask their incompetence and allow them to fly about at speeds far beyond their expertise to control.In years gone by those who floored their fast cars out of wet roundabouts often ended up in the armco, speaking of which we all know difficult it can be getting out on fast roundabouts (think of the poor old hated trucker here trying to get 15 meters and 10bhp per ton moving) with cars coming round deliberately blind sighted roundabouts at 50mph, most cars 40 years simply could do these things.When it goes wrong now the results are often at far higher speeds.I'm not against speed, try not to be a hypocrit i've done plenty of speeding in my time but hopefully at the right time and place, but like many here there have been times that stand out in what passes for my mind when it could have gone badly wrong.You need a certain amount of luck to travel hundreds of thousands and sometimes millions of miles without mishap, you cvan edge luck your way by good preperation and planning and keen observation, but anyone who's covered millions of miles without issues who thinks it purely down to their skills alone should re-evaluate.
