I think people can just get carried away with debt, its like you may has well have another burger if you are 30 stone, may as well just wang another thing on credit.Used sensibly its fine but sometimes you get a glimpse into the absolute chaos that are some folks lives and finances, but, best to stay in your own lane and not worry about them, you arent responsible for them.I have been in debt and had a bit of that mindset, whats another £200 on the credit card ? I decided to not continue that spiral and took control of my finances about 20 years ago, its a bit anal but everything is put through a spreadsheet, money is allocated to food, fuel and bills at the start of the month, anything that will attract interest charges like gym membership, house insurance, car insurance etc I siphon 1/12th of the yearly cost per month into a separate account via a standing order on pay day and it builds up ready to pay that bill rather than taking out their monthlies that attract some pretty chunky interest charges.Once you get it under control its easy to maintain, I know exactly where I am and what I can afford, I do buy stuff regularly, bought a new PC and a daft thing that displays flight details this month. Sold a load of old stuff and had a premium bond win, made a few quid last month on trading shares.I try not to spend too much on stuff thats low return, tree or four quid on a coffee, will do it but its the exception, not the rule, think for some these small, regular amounts become a sort of basic human right, but its so easy to piss £100 a more a week away on stuff like that. Financing a car, am aware my current cars depreciate but having a new high value car sat there costing me £500 a month or more, even though I can afford it would drive me mad as I would hand it back with a few thousand on it, looking like new having spent 25 grand for 2 years to have it sat there, and nobody gives a st what you drive, unless its really interesting anyway.
