Subaru timing belt R&R conundrum: did it slip or was it done wrong initally?
There are only two ways the timing could have been out, which are as you noted: misaligned at re-assembly; slipped teeth while running. Two things lead me to believe it did not slip when running. First, if tension is put onto the belt correctly during reassembly, along with the tensioner and all other parts assembled correctly, there's just about no way it is going to slip. Timing belted engines typically run for 60k-100k miles (recommended mileage for belt changes) without the belt slipping. No reason to believe it slipped if it was assembled correctly . Secondly, if the belt was going to slip once, it would most likely slip multiple times, and then both cams would probably slip and not just one. This leaves only one scenario, which was the belt was not aligned correctly during assembly. The easiest way this could happen is if you just weren't looking at it right when you assembled it. You thought you had things aligned correctly, but it wasn't. Then, even if you rotated the engine, i

So my car has been overheating for over 1 year. It overheated during summer or when I went 80mph only. I recently saved up enough money to get the car fixed. I brought it to my mechanic and informed him of how long it was overheating for. He replaced the water pump, thermostat and radiator and timing belt and a few gaskets. He said he test the head gaskets several times and said it came back negative as being blown. So he did not replace the head gasket and I don't think he visually inspected it. The car drove good for one day then it ran awful. I brought it back and sure enough a spark plug w

So my 2002 Daewoo Lanos reached the end of its life (engine failed) about a month and a half ago. Once I diagnosed the problem and made the decision that the car is going to be junked, rather than repaired, I started looking for another used car with the features that I want. I ended up buying a 2004 Dodge Neon, which is the base model with hand-crank windows, non-adjustable seats, etc. Obviously, I am going to change the oil, coolant, and transmission fluid, replace the timing belt kit, replace the spark plugs, and replace all four struts. I will also check the brakes and replace if needed. I

2019 Honda Odyssey This seems outrages to me, even for Honda parts, and significantly more than what I see posted online for just parts only I got MSRPs from the Honda Dream Shop. You can maybe forgo the serpentine belt and serpentine belt tensioner, but I would opt in to replace them when you do this job. Not sure how much coolant you would need, so I just assumed 2 gallons Am I missing something here? Why is it so expensive? Can someone please take a look at the parts list I have gathered up and let me know what I’m doing wrong? Water Pump, PN = 19200-RDV-J01, MSRP = $269.83 (comes with Gask
