Fred Smith said: I genuinely pity people in modern cars, because they have spent 10 or 20 times what I did, only to have a much worse carWorse in what way?Are you again making the mistake of thinking that your subjective preferences are actually objective and universal?
Fred Smith said: I think new cars are for people beneath me full stop, because I cannot comprehend the idea that anyone is so rich that it makes sense for them to be spunking fortunes on depreciation (the only people so rich that it makes no sense for it to matter to them are the sorts of people who can afford to buy whatever they want, and not need to buy some sort of unspecial new car that depreciates. )Whilst I can see the benefit of petrol at 10p a litre I am not jealous of people whose motoring costs are much higher per year than mine, but spend less per mile. Indeed if the only financial difference was cost per mile I'd still be very happy to put premium fuel it at 25 mpg in order to get the pleasure of driving a car I love driving. (I know this might be complex for some, but it's a bit like a meal out - I tend to go to my favourite italian, even though I get the same number of calories at three times the price compared to macdonalds. I am willing to pay more for something I really want, but I am not prepared to pay anything for something cheaper that I don't want - and in EV terms they depreciate much more than the cars I want to drive do).I have access to a huge variety of reasonably expensive cars I do not want. I genuinely pity people in modern cars, because they have spent 10 or 20 times what I did, only to have a much worse carYou consider people who buy new cars as beneath you? Have you ever considered not being such a judgmental wally, and letting people spend money and enjoy the things they want to enjoy? To use your analogy; there are lots of people out there who would rather spend that money on a McDonalds than on a fancy Italian restaurant but only a handful of knobs would look down on you for going to the Italian. You are being one of those knobs.

Hi everyone! Happy to join the community. I'm thinking about buying a fun weekend car soon. What do you personally prefer for pure driving enjoyment on weekends, manual or automatic? Looking forward to your opinions!

Yes please as I've posted many times before. It'll be interesting to see how far the personalisation can go. I wonder if that will include quad motor?

It does have a very quiet engine though. That must make me a knob Only if you shouted at someone who had tried to make you aware whilst you were doing your shopping.Good old stop/start.
