The UK doesn't appear to be an estate car place these days, sadly.Estate cars appeared quite popular in Eastern Germany, far more so than big SUVs. There are loads of estates in the UK, off the top of my head:BMW TouringsAudi A5 and A6Merc C class and E classSkoda Superb and OctaviaVW Passat and GolfI'm sure there are more that I can't think of.There is quite a good choice of EV estates as wellAnother one to add to the list -> Polestar are launching the Polestar 4 estate on September 2nd
Possessions are so personal to the individual, depending on his or her view of what’s important in life. Cars as we know are often used to show an extension of personality, or as a reflection of success, real or otherwise. Different communities and sections of our society seem to place a greater importance on outward appearance. Take Harrogate for example; an area of perceived affluence where the prestige 4x4 is king. Whether these cars are PCP’d to the eyeballs is of no concern of mine, but ten miles up the road, in the hinterland of old-moneyed North Yorkshire, you’ll find nothing of the sort - trusty Freelander 2s, Subaru Foresters etc abound. It’s a good point to mention that the obsession with the fortunes of others is a British peculiarity, almost certainly intrinsically linked to the class system, keeping up with the Joneses and the influence of the link between material possessions and happiness. And maturity too; I financed my Clio 16V in 1992 which cost a percentage of my monthly income which I wouldn’t dream of considering now. As an observation, the rise of cheap lease / PCP on perceived premium cars in the mid to late 1990s led to “ordinary” cars, once staple on the British road network, being sidelined. Mondeo man became no more, because when everyone drives premium, no one does. The bottom line for me is that it’s not my issue. That the feeble-minded buy cars they don’t need to impress people they don’t like is no skin off my nose. Now, winter shedding this year - shall I the Panda 4x4 or the Toyota Argo? I could put Aston Martin badges on it and drive around Harrogate.

A neighbour had one of these and I used to love hearing him start it up in the morning (he also had a V Twin Buell which was even noisier). Top bloke.
