Magnum 475 said: Not really. Dump valves actually served a purpose - they were intended to stop compressor stall in the turbo. Not a full anti lag system though. I had Anti Lag on my 155Q4, which would send flames out of the exhaust when turned on, and would ensure that you stayed on boost through every gear shift. Modern turbos don't have lag like that though, so these systems are now not required.Pop-and-bang serves no purpose other than making noise.I've mentioned before that some cars would 'burble' on overrun, which I expect is where the idea for pop and bang maps came from. I had a TR-6 that burbled sometimes when you lifted off - it didn't pop and bang, just a muted burbling noise for a second or two after closing the throttle - certainly not particularly loud. This was a result of the Weber carbs occasionally 'dripping' fuel into the venturi with the throttles closed. Wasn't a designed in feature, just an accident of the high performance carb design. I just figured they had gone out of fashion. Kinda miss the dump valve sound though. Pops and bangs only purpose seems to be to attract attention, tell everyone you're a knob and damage your car.
