단거리 운행이 많은 경우 디젤 엔진의 수명을 연장할 수 있는 방법이 무엇인가? 아침에는 다른 목적지를 거쳐 엔진이 충분히 따뜻해질 시간이 있지만, 사무실에서 집으로 돌아오는 길은 너무 짧아서 엔진이 제대로 데워지지 않음. 아침 운행은 필수이고 업무 중에 차량이 필요하기 때문에 일정을 바꿀 수 없는 상황에서 엔진 수명을 보호할 수 있는 방법이 있는가?

1992 Pontiac Sunbird 3.1L 자동변속기. 엔진 교체, 타이밍 체인, 트랜스 팬과 개스킷, 연료 교체, 새 플러그/와이어, 새 코일 팩, 새 연료필터, 센서, 새 연료분사기 등 교체 완료. 압축, 스파크, 연료 압력 모두 양호. 시동 보조액을 연료 흡입구에 직접 분사하면 계속 분사하는 동안 엔진이 잘 작동하지만, 자력으로는 시동이 걸리지 않음. 가끔 1초 정도만 반응하다가 다시 반응하는데 1시간까지 걸릴 수 있음.

VW Passat B5의 타이어 측벽에 44 PSI(스페어는 51 PSI)로 표기되어 있음. 이것이 너무 높다고 생각되어 주유소의 공기 주입기로 35-38 PSI로 채움. 다른 사람들은 28-30 PSI가 적절하다고 함. 정확한 타이어 공기압 기준에 대한 확실한 답변 필요.

2004 WRX 왜건, Prodrive 서스펜션 팁 애프터마켓 머플러 장착. 최근 3200rpm 감속 시 특정 회전대에서 울음 소리(howl) 발생. 정상 회전 유지 시에도 음향 변화 감지. 수년간 같은 머플러를 사용해왔는데 최근 배기음이 변했음.

시빅이 99km/h 이상에서 매번 진동 발생. 그 속도 범위에서 강하게 가속하면 진동이 줄어듦. 액셀 페달에서 발을 떼면 진동이 더 심해짐. 크루즈 컨트롤 사용 시 RPM 안정화 후 5초 뒤부터 진동이 줄어듦. 이미 확인한 사항: 던롭 일본 타이어 4개 신규 교체, 전륜 휠 베어링 2개 신규 교체, 서스펜션 4개 신규 교체(기존 약화 상태), 하단 마운팅(엔진 마운트) 교체 완료(수개월 전), 휠 밸런싱 2회 시행

날카로운 커브(약 80°)를 시속 40km로 주행 중 갑자기 스티어링이 오버스티어링 현상 발생 - 마치 외부 힘이 랙을 밀어내는 느낌. 이후로 스티어링 휠이 헐거워진 느낌이 들지만 유격은 없음. 직진 주행 시 스티어링 휠 위치는 정상이고 흔들림도 없음. 정비소에서 확인했으나 이상 없다고 함.

수동 변속기 차량을 로프나 스트랩으로 견인할 때 3단 기어에 넣어서 견인로프의 장력을 유지하는 방법이 효과적인지 확인 필요. 특히 엔진 오일 펌프가 전동식으로 변경되었는지 궁금함. 견인 중 엔진이 꺼져 있을 때 오일 순환이 제대로 되는지 우려됨.

Without knowing the price per litre, this (surely) has to be a positive development?The UK (and European) Governments need to have a sliding methodology towards phasing our fossil fuels entirely. This seems, on the face of it, a means to do just that, that will (should) also gain support from petrolheads.

After more than ten years of E36 tinkering, many engine iterations and lots of seat time from track days to racing, it was time so start something new. An accident in the E36 at Cadwell Park in April 2023 was the ultimate deciding factor for this. The car was repairable, but it's fate was already decided - break it for parts and retain what I needed, then sell the rest to fund the next project. It's final spec is listed in the video description if you are interested. The platform and interchangeability of the M5x engine parts will never go away, but fun was had and it was time to move on. |

Well, good luck to them persisting with it. But Hydrogen power is a proven dead end as a means of propulsion. Way too inefficient to make, and way too hard to handle to be practical en masse. And the line about Japan not having its own natural resources…..how does hydrogen fix that vs electricity?Keep fossil fuel ICE for the special/hard to electrify use cases, and everything else goes electric. Emissions slashed to sustainable levels, everybody happy. Even those who don’t understand physics.
