I'm trying to sell a 2009 BMW at the moment, advert goes live and i get a call within 5 mins. Some perfunctory questions where they don't really care about the answers then i get the "what best price today cash" , i explained there's no point negotiating over the phone as you'll just use that as a price to bargain down once you see the car. Since then i've had 6 calls , all with the similar schpeel. I've been out of the (used) car game for a few years and I'm back in the market now. I have one non-negotiable rule: no service history, no interest. Although you could say the same thing about some of these modern ICE hyper hatches with 4WD and auto boxes too...

My old Nuova 500, TNJ 41G, sadly long gone, had a replacement engine from a 126 and it still struggled to crack 70mph, so I'm curious as to how much of an "uptick" they've achieved!

Obviously people don't pay list for any mainstream car, but EVs do seem to have more unrealistic list prices than most. Taking our MG4 for example; it's a cheap Chinese family car, which presumably should be amongst the worst in terms of depreciation. I think new list was £32k which makes its current ~£15k value at three years old look pretty bad (53% of its value lost); but when it was new people were actually paying more like £27k for them which makes the depreciation more like 45% over three years, which feels about par for the course for a mainstream car really.
