I had booked a ferry last year with the intention of going to the Austria F1 GP. I had a G.A. ticket and one for camping but when the fuel prices went a bit silly, I baulked at spending around £800 there and back just in petrol. I could not sell the F1 tickets so I changed the ferry and decided to go camping in Normandy - Cherbourg in and Caen back. Leaving on the night sailing from Portsmouth on 17 June:No EES delay on arrival and the first visit on Thursday morning was the maritime/oceanic museum in Cherbourg. Free parking and slap bang next to the port.The nuclear submarine tour was well worth a look. It's a big 'un.From there I meandered across the top and down the east coast of the peninsular, taking in Barfleur, and other towns before camp site 1 in Le Grand Vey. Quite small but with a bar and restaurant, pool and decent facilities. A good location from where to go cycling in the area. I booked in for 3 nights.The local cider was very nice.Bunkers near Utah Beach.An agreeable bar in the nearby town of Sainte-Marie-du-MontOne day onwards to Carentan-les-MaraisAnother day riding to Osmanville for an odd museum called Station 70. It is mostly junk but it was worth €6 and I had a nice cool beer before riding back.
