It’s amazing what it’ll pull out! Thanks, I'll give it a go. rickygolf83 said: Nice work, i am currently removing the subframe and tank on my R53.... replacing everything front to back, with all the parts sitting waiting to go I'm doing the same, although I'm buying the parts as I go along, which may delay things a bit.rickygolf83 said: Did you watch Hyphens R53 resto on youtube by chance? Spent the last couple of evenings making a repair patch for the big ass hole I cut in the MINI.The bit I cut out has pressings in it, three to be exact. The carpet has additional foam on the backing that fills two of these pressings, so to my mind, that means I only have to recreate two in my patch.I stared with a bit of cardboard mounted in the hole, and drew the shape of the cut on it with a Sharpie, then cut the shape out of sheet metal and ground down the edges until it was a snug fit.I then used the tape method to approximate the pressings from the old panel on to the new one, and also onto some wood so I could make a jig.I then proceeded to beat the st out of it with a hammer! Not perfect, or pretty, but its going to be behind carpet on one side and behind a fuel tank on the other, so it won't be seen. The original panel had some threaded protrusions on to which plastic clips were fitted for holding the brake hard lines, so I drilled some holes in my repair panel and cut up an M6 bolt with the intension of spot welding the bits of bolt onto the panel, but it didn't seem to work too well, so I just welded them on at the base of the thread, again, not pretty, but it'll do the job. With the welds ground down as much as possible and some seam sealer round it for good measure, I decided to get some primer on it to save having to do much painting in the car, I'll need to grind the paint off the edges so I can weld it, but that'll be covered in seam sealer after the fact.I used a high build primer to try and hide my inexpert panel beating, but Im not sure it made much difference! After a couple of coats on the back, I then covered the back with two coats of Rust Encapsulator so that the chassis paint will have the same surface as the rest of the floor to adhere to.Hoping for decent weather on Saturday so I can get it welded.in.Edited by BORNXenon on Wednesday 3rd September 23:44

tallpaul26 said: Thank you for this public service announcement. I've filed it firmly under 'jobs never to attempt myself!'Actually wasn't that bad.One of those jobs that took ages because I was trying to do it without taking something else off, i.e. the brake servo.Once I'd decided to remove the servo, it took 20 minutes, whereas I'd spent an hour and 20minutes trying to do it without removing the servo, although admittedly, given the current status of the car, removing the servo was much easier than it would of been had I had to drain the brake fluid and if there had been an engine in the w

rickygolf83 said: Nice work again. Yours looks the same as mine inside at the moment..... seats out and carpet folder towards the front i'll buy your home made press for the repair panel lol same repair needed on mine Making the panel is the easy part, welding it in was less so, mainly because I had to cut so much out it made it awkward to get in with the torch.Hopefully you won't need to cut as much out as I did.

It has been a relatively quiet 2 months on the car and bike front but there are some updates!RX7She came out of storage and basically took a trip straight to the bodyshop to get the spoiler quoted for as this had to get done. No longer could I deal with peeling paint! Then off for an MOT, which she obviously passed with flying colours.A week or so went by and I whipped the spoiler off the old girl ready for drop off.Gosh, that is alot of gunk on the lid!All the bits disassembled and on the floor. Unfortunately one bolt snapped off, so that had to get drilled out.Just a little example of some o
