The scrap value will naturally be a fair bit higher in a 15 year old 150k mile EV than ICE with the opportunity (requirement for cars built after 1st Jan 28) to salvage the battery. A 3-15 year old EV is likely to follow a very steady depreciation curve. Perhaps a two phase curve taking into account the min 8 year battery warranty. I've changed my view on the scrap value aspect. The recycling operations are all failing as the 2020 business model relies on short lifespans and high volumes and these haven't materialised as cell chemistry and bms systems have first changed to increase longevity and there are very few existing EVs where the batteries will have viable usage after life in a car. I think scrap values of EVs will be negative until the batteries have a life expectancy well beyond the 20 year lifespan of the car they start out in. My best guess for how the curve will look for the next 10-20 years is a sharp value drop at the front end as all the taxes and incentives for new get accounted for but then flatten out for years (while an ICE will slowly but steadily fall to compensate for running costs becoming a higher and higher percentage of overall cost) and then a massive terminal drop to zero or negative when the battery capitulates before the car does. This will give a real sweat spot for running an EV say between 5-15 years old but a rush to offload ahead of its notable battery decline.
