It was a diesel and on startup in the morning it sounded like a Sherman tank, as if something was seriously wrong with it but apparently this was normal and after a few minutes it settled to a normal diesel idling sound.I recall it cost £21000 back then which seemed like a vast sum at the time, certainly compared to my meagre wages.He got his value out of it though and drove it for many many years.Great shed, peak Volvo.We took one in once as a part exchange: 760 diesel estate.The valeter shampooed the seats and, because it was winter, left it in the corner of the yard with the engine running and heater on full to dry the seats. Went for a cuppa.Came back around half an hour later to discover it had stopped. Plenty of fuel in so, so why? Turns out it had snapped its crankshaft, on idle! I seem to remember these were the same engine as the VW LT van, so ought to have been a robust old thing.Shed looks great: tempted to have a look as I'm moving my son to York uni next weekend but I'd need the big estate car to get him and all his crap there. Perhaps I'll buy it and leave it there with him - then he can bring all his crap home again at Christmas
