If the timing belt doesn't turn with the starter, is it broken?
I had a very similar problem on a Volvo a few years ago, in that case it turned out that the belt had stripped a couple of inches of teeth - so peering in the cover it looked intact, but didn't turn with the crank. This will become obvious if you remove the cover completely. You might be lucky though - a quick bit of googling reveals this quote: The 2006-2012 2.4 dual MIVEC engines are extremely small margin interference... in fact I have not seen one instance of valve damage on the final design 2.4's when the belt breaks. So you might be able to get away with simply replacing the belt (and any tensioners), without any further damage to the engine. I wasn't so lucky and had several bent valves... The only other reasons I can think of for the cambelt not turning with the engine would be a broken crank (which would be very obvious!), or the starter not engaging with the flywheel (which you've ruled out if the crank is turning)

So my car has been overheating for over 1 year. It overheated during summer or when I went 80mph only. I recently saved up enough money to get the car fixed. I brought it to my mechanic and informed him of how long it was overheating for. He replaced the water pump, thermostat and radiator and timing belt and a few gaskets. He said he test the head gaskets several times and said it came back negative as being blown. So he did not replace the head gasket and I don't think he visually inspected it. So my 2002 Daewoo Lanos reached the end of its life (engine failed) about a month and a half ago. Once I diagnosed the problem and made the decision that the car is going to be junked, rather than repaired, I started looking for another used car with the features that I want. I ended up buying a 2004 Dodge Neon, which is the base model with hand-crank windows, non-adjustable seats, etc. Obviously, I am going to change the oil, coolant, and transmission fluid, replace the timing belt kit, replace the spark plugs, and replace all four struts. 2019 Honda Odyssey This seems outrages to me, even for Honda parts, and significantly more than what I see posted online for just parts only I got MSRPs from the Honda Dream Shop. You can maybe forgo the serpentine belt and serpentine belt tensioner, but I would opt in to replace them when you do this job.
