Back in the old days, when clocking was more common, () I used to make a copy of certain important parts of the history and conceal them in the car when I sold it, in a place the new owner would eventually look, but the trade probably wouldn't. I haven't done this recently though.The above posters' thoughts on the dealer binning the history ... can only be so the car can be clocked?

I know someone that bought a BMW Approved Used M3 some years back, and contacted original owner (1 owner car) to ask whether they had kept original invoice, bills, all the nerdy stuff etc. Owner contacted back saying he'd passed over big history file etc to dealer on part ex and was surprised it hadn't been passed on.New owner went back to dealer and asked about file and was told they binned it all as they were not allowed to pass that sort of information on?Car hadn't been clocked or anything like that. Sadly original owner hadn't kept scans or copies of anything.

I was thinking about this the other day, as a work colleague was telling me about his friend who was transplanting a BMW M57 diesel engine (the 3 litre straight six diesel) and the ZF 8-speed auto into a classic Defender. Now objectively this makes it a better car (faster, more efficient, more usable etc) and this is essentially what Ineos did to make the Grenadier but does it retain the character/feel of a classic Defender? I would argue no. If I were getting a classic Defender, I would probably seek out a Td5 as I thought it was the best engine they put in it from factory and maybe get a
