To put that Volvo into perspective, the first owner could have bought a new Saff cosworth for similar money at the time instead, try finding a half decent one of those for under £20k these days. It's all about perceived value with modern classics, so in that regards it's a bit of a bargain for £2k to the right person.I remember the days when you could pick up such a cossie for the same budget as that Volvo is now, imagine if nostalgia had not kicked in for those, then people would be saying on here "what, you paid £2k for an old Sierra, you must be nuts"!

I'd say yes to MOT-ing as you can't buy Road Tax without a valid MOT, so getting it done avoids running the gauntlet of getting to a (booked) MOT appointment without tax.If the insurance is peanuts then FWIW, and the advantage of a NCB accruing, then keep it insured.As for the tax, IME the direct debit route works out more expensive if you tax for a month (they take two months upfront) and then Sorn. Cheaper overall to buy a year's tax and then Sorn before the end of the month so the DVLA send a cheque for the remaining unused tax. That of course depends on how much you intend to take a shed out and about.I was once advised an engine with good compression and lubrication won't seize, and with that advised against periodic starting up of a car as it can simply cause spark plugs to foul.I have been keeping a shed going for 5 years - parking it and going abroad and leaving it for months at a time. More recently (as per my last post), 5 months. The ignition has been fine.Main gripes have been non-engine: brake calipers sticking recently and the build up of muck, sap, dirt etc (depends on your area) on the windscreens and bodywork, but otherwise mechanically the 1.6 Ecotec has been a solid engine. I tend to disconnect a battery terminal before leaving it stood outside for weeks/months and pressure wash the areas under/around arches, tailgate, bonnet etc where dirt, leaves, road salt etc build up.Those anecdotes may be reasons for others to use a shed more often, or if it is going to be parked for a while then buy a cover for it.
