I last went in 2018, the year the Alpine A110 was launched. We had a great day and both made a pact that one day we will own an Alpine. However, even then I just felt it had got too big and commercial. For me I have the memory of going every year from 1996 to 2008 inclusive. Missed 94 and 95 as I didnt even know it existed and then read a piece by Steve Cropley in Autocar on it. The first year I went in 1996 was very special. Got there nice and early and it was so so quiet. Didn't queue on the Chichester bypass and just drove straight in along the little lanes that lead up to it. Lots of celeb
The slowcoaches have reached Switzerland. I was stuck in a queue behind one for an estimated 10-15km, on an Autostrasse - which is something like a mini motorway: mostly one lane in each direction, sometimes single carriage way and sometimes dual carriageway, and no overtaking except for the occasional short section where they add an additional lane. The speed limits are clearly posted, and semi-regularly repeated, so there's little excuse not to know the limit. The offending driver was pootling along at around 55-60km/h - signposted limit being 80 km/h. On entering a tunnel (there are a lot of these here) they dropped down to 50 km/h (speed limit still 60 km/h). Eventually we reached a section signalled for 100km/h, where they accelerated... up to a staggering 75 km/h. These roads are extremely easy to drive, so there's very little reason to be below the limit - keep in mind that you have far more space than on a typical British single-carriageway, the limit is lower (80km/h is around 50mph), the single-carriageway sections have a double white line so you're nowhere near the opposing traffic, and often there's even a hard shoulder. Unfortunately there were no overtaking sections whatsoever on this stretch... the thought of attempting a flying overtake via a junction or a rest area did cross my mind - but it would have been rather tricky to achieve, at least while staying legal. The Police can and do sometimes issue fines (costing multiple hundreds) for slow driving - or more accurately for unnecessarily obstructing traffic flow - but they do it far too rarely. And I suspect that it's very difficult to enforce the law since you can't easily reach the offender except on a motorway or other multi-lane road.

I've filed it firmly under 'jobs never to attempt myself!'Actually wasn't that bad.One of those jobs that took ages because I was trying to do it without taking something else off, i.e. the brake servo.Once I'd decided to remove the servo, it took 20 minutes, whereas I'd spent an hour and 20minutes trying to do it without removing the servo, although admittedly, given the current status of the car, removing the servo was much easier than it would of been had I had to drain the brake fluid and if there had been an engine in the w

A neighbour had one of these and I used to love hearing him start it up in the morning (he also had a V Twin Buell which was even noisier). Top bloke.
