Just asked my wife if she would be happier getting into an autonomous taxi by herself or one with a driver shes got no idea of their background (no shade on all but a handful of them). At the moment shes not sure as she doesn't trust the tech at the moment, though that may change. So for some groups I could see them being more trusted than human drivers.Sure I saw a study awhile ago that predicted a rise in the number of miles being driven when autonomous gets into hands of general populace. Logic being you go out for the evening, but can't find parking, so send it home, then call it back when you're ready to leave, effectively using it as a personal taxi.The security aspect is an interesting debate as full autonomy does remove the small but very serious risk from a driver but then it opens up the entirely new risk of someone travelling alone in a box that is suddenly incredibly easy to stop whenever and wherever a third party wishes to. It's only a matter of time before the advantages that autonomous vehicles hand to criminals is utilised. It won't remain for long just people wanting to cross the street making these cars stop and give way to them.
