It s likely be more reliable, spec for spec about 40% less cost and for 99% of users it ll offer no compromises compared to a defender. They offer 5 years unlimited km in Australia. All a long warranty means is the manufacturer has guessed what warranty will cost them, divided it by the number of cars they expect to sell, and put £100 per car in the bank to pay for it.The Chinese just bank more cash per car.

The EU has set an initial limit of 350,000 hybrid vehicles per year under a four year safeguard agreement. This quota is scheduled to take effect in December 2026 and will increase by 6% each year. Any cars arriving above the limit will be held in European customs docks rather than facing alternative tariffs.IMO, and this is just one opinion, the UK would do well to consider introducing something similar themselves. Until we can understand the impact these rapidly increasing levels of imports are having on our economy it would be prudent to put measures in place to limit them, that is what government is there to do, to act in the national interest when markets are unwilling or incapable of doing so themselves.Edit: for context, a UK quota of 55,000 cars per year would match the EU on a population basis. In the latest full year sales figures, around 285,000 Chinese cars were sold in the UK (13-15% of the total new car market), with nearly 175,000 sold in the first half of 2026 alone, but be aware, these are TOTAL sales, so that's BEVs, HEVs and PHEVs.Edited by mjspencer348 on Friday 16th October 14:33 Why though? The U.K. doesn't manufacture cars and almost all jobs in the automotive sector are based around the selling and servicing of imported cars with a chunk of assembling of imported components. The U.K. overtly needs to import the cheapest cars not block them and force consumers to borrow even more money they don't have to specifically buy over priced imports to defend someone else's manufacturing industry. Did the European mainland step up to bank roll and support the U.K. car industry as it died off back in the 20th century or did it leap in like a hyena and fight over the carcasses of the dead?It makes no sense for the U.K. to force its taxpayers to protect the European car industry from the consequences of its own decisions
