I am currently a salesman for a well-known, previously British manufacturer. I am tired of the slander and insults the Chinese are getting.First and foremost, the company I currently work for was defunct until the 'Chinese' took over. Now? One of the fastest growing brands in Europe, offering affordable prices for motorists across the country while also providing jobs for thousands of people. If they never took over, the brand wouldn't live on, nor would I have a job or would thousands of motorists find themselves in reliable* cars for low prices and low warranties. Early models have had thei

What do you owe these European and Asian brands?2. Why do we all willingly participate in capitalism but draw the line when the Chinese do it?I recall the Koreans doing exactly what the Chinese are doing 15 years ago when Hyundai and Kia rebranded and belted out a load of cheap but quality products with long warranties and everybody ate it upYour point 2 isn't really true. Massive state/party support. Low interest loans. It's not capitalist at all. I'm not anti, but you need to understand their long term dominance strategy before eulogising them. I know it isn't capitalist right now because yes, SAIC is state owned however the point I am making is that they're not doing it for charity, the end goal is profit and that is capitalism.Profit does not equal capitalism. Capitalism is about seeking private profit. Socialist (and other -ist systems) do not exclude or negate seeking profits. But with the like of SAIC, FAW and Dongfeng the profit goes back to the state (so it is, for a certain definition, 'socialised') rather than into private pockets. What the Chinese socio-economic system is can be hard to get a consensus on. But regular liberal capitalism it certainly isn't. Authoritarian state capitalism - perhaps. With SOEs controlling the majority of the economy's capital and a large amount of central planning and direction maybe it's a form of market socialism. Which is certainly what the CCP like to call it.As other posters have said, the negativity towards Chinese marques often comes from a sense that they are not 'playing fair'. Intellectual property and technology gained by nefarious means. Huge injections of capital and R&D and lengthy establishment and growth periods that no Western enterprise could have. Labour costs and conditions that no Western company can legally or ethically match. Th

BigChiefmuffinAgain said: The Jaguar brand will now be largely irrelevant. They are going from selling 180,000 cars a year in 2018 to maybe a few thousand of these. There doesn't seem to be anything else in the pipeline ( or maybe they've discovered a previously unknown ability to keep these things under wraps ). Not sure how dealers will survive trying to sell these new £130k behemoths alongside a few second hand XE models for £10k. Not even sure how the small levels of sales can support the whole management structure a car company needs, even if it does share a lot of stuff with Land Rover.

Apart from the badge there is no distinction between this and a BYD to my old eyes.Imagine aspiring to something like this and then folk repeatedly assume it's a Chinese knock off.Ironically the Chinese knock off will come with most of the options included for half the price!Mugs.

Possibly a strange topic for some, but I’ve always had a fascination with headlamp washers, and in particular systems that involve wipers. I’ve had a couple, namely a Saab 900 and an E30 BMW. Some other manufacturers like Volvo and Mercedes were well known for them tooHowever, this evening I randomly found the following image of a Talbot Solaro, and it got me thinking about what other cars are there where headlight wipers were availableA few others that spring to mind:Any other obscure ones?

I've got my Phaeton with the 6HP to do soon, a bit more involved as a job, but it's already had a box and a torque converter in the last 50k, so it hasn't been left forever without maintenance - I've heard the 6HP19s seem to like to give trouble! It's my first torque converter auto (in 70 cars of manuals, and 1 DSG!)If I'd kept my old E320cdi I'd have certainly ended up getting the gearbox serviced. I bought it with 104k on

Renault4 said: Were HMG to tax electricity used in cars as heavily as petrol, an EV would be more expensive per mile in terms of fuel. This is a future problem we will face. That depends entirely upon how you define equivalence. If we taxed at the same rate per kWh of energy, the electric tax would be about 9p/kWh. If we taxed per kg of CO2 (and ignored all of the emissions prior to the petrol going into the tank) it would be about 5p/kWh.

OE marked tyres are nothing new, and people replacing them with generics is commonplace. Though looking on Camskill, the OE marked tyres for my car are cheaper than the closest generic version they've got.Lots of OE marked tyresGeneric versionOE versions
