I've paid by post and by paid entries for 6 years. I am fortunate that thanks to a really good streak a few years ago I am up, but, if they were all paid entries, I'd be at least £50,000 down. Let that sink in. My most successful method was DCGs now extinct 'win every time'instant wins. They were £9 a ticket and had an 80 ticket cap. I'd send 80x postcards every week, sometimes they did it twice a week, at a cost of what, £100 a pop at the time for a .mx of 1st and 2nd. But they were completely honest and I'd always get worse case £350-500 site credit / small prizes. I reinvested that site credit into max entries on cash comps where I had stupidly good odds. There were a few months where I was winning something tangible nearly every week.. DCG are penny comps now and the odds are just not as good. It's a shame as they were my favourite for both paid and postal entries before. Also being able to test at scale the instant win comps, I had probably £10,000 of entries and won nothing more than site credit (read below as realistically it's worth half of what it says) and small £50-200 prizes.In the last year I've 'only' won a watch, that was from a paid entry. The year prior I won a £350 prize only from a postal entry.That is despite having nearly every week £500-1000 of postal entries confirmed with decent odds. It is why I am non plussed by free entries - when I'm not winning on high value low odds prizes I don't feel like it is worth the energy of low value insane odds entries even if they are free. They are literally worth less than a penny, just buy a £1 ticket and enjoy 'better' odds. It is also a bit of a concern for me, that 90% of the postal entries are on automatic draws. The cost is in giving me a ticket not the prize, so that to me should mean there is no point in doing something behind the scenes to remove postal entrants from the list of possible winners.
