증상
2004 토요타 코롤라의 브레이크 페달이 스펀지처럼 말랑거리며, 교통체증에서처럼 오래 밟고 있을 때 페달이 바닥까지 내려가는 브레이크 실패 증상 발생. 반복적으로 펌프질하거나 약한 압력으로 짧은 간격으로 밟을 때는 정상 작동. 브레이크 액 레벨은 적절함. 캘리퍼 서빙 시 브레이크액 누유 발견되어 고무 씰 교체함. 마스터 실린더 씰을 여러 번 교체했으나 거의 개선 없음. 마스터 실린더를 수개월 전 교체했으나 변화 거의 없음. 브레이크액 블리딩을 여러 번 시행함. 브레이크 패드는 양호함.
처리 내용
지금까지의 수리 이력은 무시하고 처음부터 새로 진단하기. 먼저 브레이크액 누유 가능성을 확실히 배제해야 함. 브레이크액 저수지의 액면을 연필로 정확히 표시한 후, 차량에 탑승하여 페달을 오래 눌러서 '실패' 현상을 여러 번 반복 유도. 그 후 액면 레벨 확인. 만약 레벨이 내려가면 누유가 있는 것이며, 누유 위치를 찾아야 함. 정비사가 찾지 못하면 다른 정비사 방문. 브레이크액 레벨이 변하지 않는다면? 더 이상 의심의 여지가 없음: 유일한 원인은 결함이 있는 마스터 실린더임. 마스터 실린더를 몇 번 오버홀하거나 교체했더라도, 액 레벨은 일정하면서 페달을 오래 밟을 때 바닥까지 내려가면 마스터 실린더가 불량인 것이 확실. 다른 설명의 여지가 없음. 양호한 마스터 실린더를 설치하면 문제가 해결될 것.

2018 코롤라 XSE, 55,000마일. 최근 장거리 고속도로 주행 중 에어컨을 지속적으로 사용. 신호등에서 정차할 때 RPM이 정상보다 낮아지고 차량이 약간 떨림. RPM이 올라갈 때도 같은 현상 발생하며, RPM 내려갈 때 떨림이 더 심함. 에어컨을 켜지 않을 때도 동일하게 발생. 정비소에서는 AC 컴프레셔 교체를 1차 진단으로 제시함.

I did more track days in my E60 than all my other cars in the past combined I would hazard a guess at. So many fond memories. My advice, put a decent set of brakes on it, I ended up with 12 Piston Calipers and 400mm rotas with all the track days I did and it really transformed it and the confidence it gave to the car.

I'm very observant when driving or walking, the other day I walked my son to school alongside a busy road, I reckon 80% of the cars that passed me were looking down at phones. I had a van pull out on me on a roundabout a few months ago and then slam his brakes on, phone clearly visible so I submitted the footage to TVP and to my surprise they sent me a letter confirming a prosecution. The amount of times I've had to swerve recently because of cars swerving onto my side of the road is diabolical.
