Remaining a vassal to the U.S. isn't a viable option and decoupling is imperative. Indeed Trump is worrying about the Midterms and most likely imagines the pipelines can be fixed by then. Additional pipeline capacity hopefully by early next year. His only job is to manage the mess until then and stop further missile and drone attacks.
