My first car (in 2002, this would have been) was going to be a late 1098cc Moggy Thou.I saw 'was going to be' because it was bought by my Dad (for £500, if I remember right) not only sight-unseen but through several strands of friend-of-a-friend grapevine. So it turned out to not be the expected Convertible that had 'only been off the road a few years' but a 2-door saloon with a Webasto. Maybe it had only been off the road for a few years, but if that was the case it certainly hadn't been roadworthy at the time, since the floorpan was mostly rust scabs. The driver's footwell bowed and flexed under braking, showing that the master cylinder was now a structural member. Lifting the rear carpets showed daylight and the forward ends of the leaf springs coming up through what was left of the floor. But it was in lovely topside condition and it had an immaculate interior. It also had one of the best A-Series engines I've ever encountered. It started literally on the button - you just had to jab the starter with full choke and it purred into life the moment the pistons started to move. It idled like it was on electronic fuel injection and it had zero taps, chatter, knocks or rattles. It was clearly not feasible to patch it up into a roadworthy prospect. So Dad mentored me through doing a full service on it (all the fluids, all the filters, all the lube points), tracing and sorting some of its electrical gremlins and then we hoiked the engine and gearbox out, stripped them down, checked the tolerances (the engine was as tight as if it had come out the factory, the gearbox was a bit baggier) and put them back together again with new gaskets. That Minor eventually went off to a local restorer. I used to see it poking over the top of their fence for a few years before it disappeared. I imagine it was beyond viable to restore, so I hope at least that brilliant engine and perfect interior went on to live second lives in other, less rotten, Moggies. I've been able to drive every o

This looks fantastic. I think it's got to a point you'd have to be daft to buy the G90 M5 over this or a top end Taycan. Either pure combustion or pure electric, the PHEVs are just a pointless, overcomplicated middle option

Still as subtle as a brick in your face. Not for me.

Other than a slightly bulky rear end, I think that looks fantastic. 9/10. And it's a saloon, not another bloody SUV - hurrah!
