오래된 휘발유(15년 이상 금속 캔에 보관)로 연료를 공급한 후 며칠 뒤 시동이 걸리지 않음. 엔진을 여러 번 플러시했을 때 녹이 많이 배출됨.
휘발유는 시간이 지나면서 화학적으로 분해되어 엔진 성능을 저하시킴. 장기 보관되는 연료에는 연료 안정화제(fuel stabilizer)를 사용하여 품질 저하를 방지할 수 있음. 엔진오일은 휘발유와 달리 밀폐된 용기에 보관할 경우 수십 년 이상 오래 지속될 수 있음.
