I've never driven a luxury SUV, but I'm guessing you'd notice the difference in terms of acceleration, ride and handling and braking. Also, I imagine most cars at this price point aren't bought outright, so a bump in monthly payments could be justified by a noticeable improvement in dynamics (I'm deliberately ignoring the thorny issue brand status here!).
