I saw this poster at a tire shop earlier today As the image quality isn't great, I'll reproduce the advert's claims in writing: Take the lead! Ride smart! [Nitrogen] for your SAFETY & ECONOMY Nitrogen molecules are bigger than normal air Less leakage Fuel effecient [sic] Less irregular wear No presence of Oxygen No oxidation Longer tyre life No deterioration It's no wonder why aircraft and formula 1 cars Use nitrogen to inflate their tyres! Summary The difference for passenger cars is pretty small, but it seems to be quite real. The less you maintain your tires the bigger the effect is. In large fleets of vehicles, the effect can be quite large. With passenger vehicles, the fuel savings were between 2 and 8% depending on the study and driver behavior. A driver who regularly maintains their tire pressure sees much lower benefits than one who just gets the pressures checked during oil changes (about twice as much fuel savings if you only occasionally check pressures). One could argue that just checking your tires more often would save as much as nitrogen-filled tires, but the reality is that most people don't, so a public campaign to use nitrogen for tires could potentially see significant savings across a populati

Good morning. Recently I conducted a search on why, after long-term storage of my car about 5 months, one of my tires pressure was 4psi lower than the others. I had set them all a little high, 40psi for storage. Upon returning, three of them had dropped to 35psi - the weather was colder - but one was at 32. My 2017 Honda front wheel drive CRV has 21k miles with two original tires each with 6/32 tread remaining and two new tires due to non-repairable punctures. After the first new tire, the TPMS recalibrated correctly. This refers to a problem with my car, based on comments on the “Hit curb 10mph brand new Corolla - mild vibration after” thread. Also, reference to the thread which I posted on exploding three tires in a very few days on my 2009 Mexican Sienna, due to road hazards.
