증상
볼보 Amazon, 164, 144 등 구형 모델들의 웜 앤 섹터(worm and sector) 스티어링 시스템 사용. 새로운 부시 장착 후에도 스티어링 시스템에 항상 유격(play)이 존재. 바퀴가 평행할 때 데드 포인트(dead point) 발생. 랙 앤 피니언(rack and pinion) 시스템과 비교하면 조향 성능이 현저히 떨어짐.
처리 내용
웜 앤 섹터 스티어링 시스템의 장점: 1) 피트먼 암(pitman arm) 길이 조정으로 스티어링 여행거리(steering travel) 조절 용이 - 랙 앤 피니언보다 더 많은 여행거리 제공 가능. 2) 랙 앤 피니언 전환 대비 비용이 저렴. 3) 견고한 구조로 NASCAR 등 레이싱 조직에서도 여전히 선호. 4) 시간이 검증한 신뢰성 있는 시스템. 반면 랙 앤 피니언의 단점: 1) 랙에 절단할 수 있는 치수 제한으로 인해 웜 앤 섹터 대비 스티어링 여행거리 제한적. 2) 경우에 따라 개조 시 추가 가공 필요.
