Good advice. There's a difference, and a significant one between not trying to beat the lights, and slowing down in case they change to red. Nobody in their right mind would defend the latter, and it fits accurately into the title of the thread.I would say that ' trying not to beat the lights' and 'slowing down' are on of the same. Either way you adjust your speed in anticipation of the lights changing to red.Ok. I think we're on entirely different paths here. Or at least,

Two lanes approaching the roundabout, two lanes on the roundabout, two lanes after the roundabout. If you enter the roundabout in the right hand lane, you should go round the roundabout in the right hand lane and exit in the right hand lane. I certainly don't remember anything in the Highway Code about taking the racing line across a roundabout.Approaching the roundabout, if you want to turn left, use the left lane. For any other exit, right-hand lane, indicate and peel off when you arrive at your exit. Anyone arriving at the roundabout and looking right would see you approaching, and know by which lane you were in your route at the roundabout. That still doesn't excuse the car in the diagram entering the roundabout from the right hand lane then taking the racing line into the left hand lane then back to the right. For a two lane dual carriageway with a lane marked roundabout as in the diagram I would suggest that either lane would do to enter and exit the roundabout if going straight over (unless road marking say otherwise) , the key is to stay in the lane you started in an not straightline the bend.
