Also imho forced to build cars in advance of the demand for them hence all the pre register "deals" and/or fields of cars pre delivery.TX. They aren't 'forced' into over production. Its a choice made by the manufacturer. And lets be real here. My current car has electric seats, windows, mirrors. An option of a panoramic roof. None of those are required by law but they add a LOT of weight to a car. Bigger tyres (try lifting a 2026 wheel vs a 1990s one). Lots of stuff adding weight there. The rise of the SUV. The rise of 'perceived' quality. The mk5 Passat added more weight across the industry than any EU reg.I'm on board that regs are probably too extreme and some driver assist is actively unhelpful but the industry has a lot of responsibility here. Jaguar was drowning in the 60s and 70s without the EU.
