Mr Tidy said: It's certainly getting more expensive to run a fun car and harder to find places to enjoy it, especially in the South East. .......I'll be hanging on to my fun car as long as possible! Is that the potholes, roads closed, traffic, or all three? You're right though.Law of diminishing returns very much applies to money spent on buying a car. And how can a set of tyres be nearly £900?
I agree with the OP, the cost is spiralling and it's difficult to swallow without getting fizzed up about it.The amount we are paying per litre for any of the fuels is waaay past being just ridiculous now, and after tempting people over to electric vehicles the government introducing road tax increases along with the cost of electricity increasing feels like (tinfoil hat at the ready) it may have been the plan all along - much like when the motorist was told that diesel was the way forward and made to look attractive financially, only to get clobbered further down the line so the government could bleed more money out of motorists.I'm very spoilt by the roads within 30-40 minutes of my house as I live within striking distance of the Cairngorms, so the ability to exercise a fun car is still there for me.. although traffic has increased and the quality of the roads has decreased in general. This was taken just the other week:Untitled by Grant F, on FlickrIf I'm honest then I had more fun in the Golf than I did in my 997 on those roads.. so you don't need to be in anything super fast or exotic to enjoy yourself, and if you're looking for a 'single car solution' then a hot hatch is a very good option and they are really well suited to proper B-road fun. But I don't have any other vices, so while the frequency of the B-road therapy sessions/road trips may have reduced from where they were in days gone by, they haven't stopped.. and I refuse to let them go until it becomes prohibitively expensive.

To be fair, if more detractors actually test drove stuff properly, there'd be less detractors. But that doesn't generate clicks. PistonTim said: ...
