Attending To The Minor ItemsFollowing the successful MOT and cambelt from the grudgingly impressed Phil, I set about ticking off some easier items I had on the list for correction. The left side repeater was notably grottier than the right side, so another one made its way over from Lithuania:Much better...The screenwash cap was of a similar crumblage:A Fiat part as I couldn't find the exact Alfa one, plus I prefer bright colours.Naturally, the bonnet struts were mismatched and a little scabrous, so a fresh pair from SGS were sourced.The bonnet now actually lifts itself and doesn't need encouragement. So far, so normal on consumables. My march back to Series 1 components on the 166 continued, as I was very keen to find a slimmer, pre facelift steering wheel which is shared with the GTV/916. The facelift wheel is the thicker, plumper 147 Alfa generation that also had 184k of wear on it. The gearknox was also worn down to the nubbins, and was a slight biohazard.Luckily, eBay provided an excellent pre-facelift perforated Super wheel, and as an added bonus it came with a 6 speed gearknob. I bought this during the PH annual service following some gentle encouragement from other PHers. The best formation of peer pressure!Luckily my experience with Alfa steering wheels over the year made this relatively straightforward - T30 screws to take the airbag out with battery disconnected, 24mm socket on the main nut once earths have been disconnected.On disconnection the earthing wire was found to be slightly different ont he generations, so I spliced a spare together.The gearknob was a 'pull off, push back on' 12 second endeavour, and I disposed of the carrion original with fire & litanies.With all that done I really was beaming - the main tactile points of the steering wheel and gearknob are key, and I always like renewing them to make the car 'mine', especially after 184k!Next up...
