I had a new one (literally just a few km) as a hire car in 2011, that we did 1500 miles in (Paris to Nice area for a week and then a further week in the Dordogne). It was a well appointed version with all the kit. As a drive it was a little underpowered with only a 1.6 Diesel. However it was a good long distance cruiser. I would imagine your 3.0 is superb with some real performance. One to definitely keep as a long term c

How d you find the change in interior space?Looking at the E43 to replace an Octavia as love the interior size.(Looks great by the way!)Thanks! It is definitely smaller inside. The Superb has a huge amount of room, particularly rear legroom and boot. But, it is barge-like and has wallowy suspension in Comfort, but is too hard / jittery in Sport mode. Also, with the map, it was surprising quick in a straight line, but understandably pretty hopeless around the bends. The C43 feels smaller of course, but better suited to the country roads I spend a lot of time on. Not much quicker in a straight line, but much better in the corners and more suited to a B road. And the noise is unbelievable. I can get by with the boot space just fine too. Kids are a little older, so have less kit, and the spaniel fits just fine. If you have a lot of clobber to carry or a larger dog, E-Class is the way to go though. Interesting. I don t have a dog but I do have growing children and I like a big estate, in my eyes the Octavia/Superb are the ultimate do it all cars and quite frankly there isn t a good reason to move it on. Except I really miss having An. Engine. if you know what I mean. Previous was a 156 V6 SW and while the rest of it fell apart that engine was to die for. A C43 has come up locally so I might have a peak and see what I think. A few years with a V6 again would be nice before I finally scratch that V8 itch I'm in the same boat. My vRS does everything I need it's an excellent compromise, but I'm always looking at the 540i, S6, E43 etc. Good to know it s not just me! The S6 is on my radar too, wasn t aware there was a V8 v version until recently, that would certainly scratch the itch! Usually I d want to go and try a few out but like I said before, the South West is a wasteland for interesting motors.I think you'd struggle with the legroom in the back on a

I've got my Phaeton with the 6HP to do soon, a bit more involved as a job, but it's already had a box and a torque converter in the last 50k, so it hasn't been left forever without maintenance - I've heard the 6HP19s seem to like to give trouble! It's my first torque converter auto (in 70 cars of manuals, and 1 DSG!)If I'd kept my old E320cdi I'd have certainly ended up getting the gearbox serviced. I bought it with 104k on

The Mk3 Astra and Cavalier are so similar (especially at the front) that only a true car nerd would know or care, but the Saab has an Astra rear beam, clear as day. The GTE's beam would fit right on for example, and the way the handbrake cables work are the same. A Cavalier sort of uses a single cable, Astra/ Saab uses one for each wheel. But then Saab added 5mm spacers each side at the rear, to make it the same as a Cavalier....It's very odd.Well I for one have learnt somethin
