Not too convinced the N52 unit would be best suited to an auto box mind you. It s not. I ve have five N52 powered cars, one of which was an auto and the manual suit the engine much more in my opinion. It's one of the worst combinations in motoring history for me as you both say. Weirdly I did think that the auto suited the E90 330d though in comparison. I only got 26mpg overall out of my E90 330i auto as well, but

Weirdly I did think that the auto suited the E90 330d though in comparison. I only got 26mpg overall out of my E90 330i auto as well, but if you drove it like a Grandad on a long run it would to over 30mpg to be fair though in my experience. This is such nonsense. The ZF6 is fairly quick-witted for a traditional slusher. I've been driving an auto 330i E91 now for 14yrs and it remains a fantastically engaging and versatile thing, for a family wagon. The bonus is that when you're in urban traffic the fact that the ZF6 is a traditional slushbox makes for calm progress. Far smoother than the ZF8 at low speeds.More generally, these are fairly reliable things with the N52. Obviously they're 20yrs old now and people tend to forget that. Main issues are the waterpump and the large DISA valve - the latter's a job of 20mins to fit a new one. Beyond that the CCV pipes are getting brittle, but they will be on any car of this age, and the bushes will likely be getting worn.Edited by Swervin_Mervin on Friday 10th July 09:27Edited by Swervin_Mervin on Friday 10th July 09:28 I just didn't think the ZF6 was a good match to the lovely N52 that's all. Fine if you just want to potter around in it, but the gearbox falls flat on it's face if you want to push on though for me. Plus the N52 isn't torquey enough for an auto in my opinion either. Me neither Lee. I wasn t much of a fan of it in my 335i either even it d been mapped (it seems to go too far the other way). I still think the N52 is b

From what I understand.. no aftermarket V10 exhaust passes regular track noise limits. Yes, you can test in the paddock with the valves closed but if you run on track with them closed the additional back-pressure kills the engine. I'd be limited to anything that's no limits, which isn't much and, lets be honest, is where all the big boys play I think you are looking at this wrong…Put an exhaust on the R8. Then you can buy a light weight more track focussed car for track. More cars,

A neighbour had one of these and I used to love hearing him start it up in the morning (he also had a V Twin Buell which was even noisier). Top bloke.
