신형 자동차의 타이어 사이즈가 점점 커지는 것 같음. 예: 17년 전 미쓰비시 미라주는 P155/80R13, 현재 현대 엑센트는 P175/70R14. 더 큰 타이어의 목적이 무엇인지, 신형 차량이 왜 더 큰 타이어를 장착하는지 궁금함. 차량 무게 증가와 관련이 있는지, 안정성, 연비, 또는 승차감을 위한 것인지 알고 싶음.

처리 내용

기본적인 전제가 정확하지 않음. 많은 차량이 14인치 타이어를 사용하고, 많은 타이어가 기존 좁은 사이즈와 같은 폭임. 다만 타이어 기술이 발전하여 이제 구조적으로 견딜 수 있는 넓은 타이어를 더 쉽고 저렴하게 제조할 수 있게 됨. 대부분의 조건에서 지면에 접하는 러버 면적이 넓을수록 그립력이 증가함 (수심이 깊은 물이나 눈에서는 좁은 타이어가 더 나은 그립을 제공할 수 있으므로 예외). 더 큰 접지면은 실제로 타이어 폭이 넓어지면서 지면과의 마찰이 증가하여 연비에 부정적인 영향을 미침. 저프로필 타이어는 향상된 조종감을 제공할 수 있지만 이 질문과는 크게 관련이 없음.
