스로틀 바디(TB)란 무엇인가? 가솔린 엔진의 경우, 스로틀 바디는 연료분사 엔진으로 들어오는 공기 흐름을 제어하는 메커니즘이다. 즉, '입구 문'이라고 할 수 있다. 대부분의 TB 내부에는 최소 1개 이상의 나비 밸브(butterfly valve)가 있다. 보통 나비 밸브를 통과하는 중심 로드가 있어서 나비를 열어 공기가 들어올 수 있게 한다. 나비는 케이블로 제어되기도 하고(드라이브 바이 케이블 또는 DBC), 최근에는 와이어로 제어되기도 한다(드라이브 바이 와이어 또는 DBW - 컴퓨터/ECU에 의해 제어). 어떤 TB는 나비가 1개이고, 어떤 것은 2개(같은 로드에 연결되어 작동)인 경우도 있다. 더 많은 나비를 가진 제품도 있을 수 있다. DBC 시스템에서 TB의 2차 기능은 스로틀 위치를 모니터링하는 것이다. 보통 이 정보를 컴퓨터에 전송하기 위해 스로틀 위치 센서(TPS)가 있다. DBW 시스템은 컴퓨터가 이미 감지하고 있으므로 TPS가 반드시 필요하지는 않다.
