A great read, not done the whole Wild Atlantic Way but I’ve been to Dingle for a conference many times and always drive rather than fly. The first time the sun dawned halfway across Ireland and I caught my breath on sight of the Emerald Isle. Want to explore further north towards Galway.Dingle once had a pub for every 11 members of the male population and is still well served. Great restaurants too. The Blasket Centre is worthwhile and one year I must get a boat to Skellig Michael, Luke Skywalker’s island retreat in the Disney Star Wars films. Great place, good times.Edited by Baddie on Sunday

Mrs V. wanted to visit the Doagh Famine Village and I was being a grumpy st about it. But what a place. Welcomed with tea/coffee and biscuits and a tour around. Amazing to think that they didn't get electricity until the 80's. The Inishowen Peninsula really is my favourite place.Down to Slieve League - amazing and 50x better than the Cliffs of Moher. Visited Donegal, Sligo & Galway. On the way down to the Cliffs of Moher we crested the mountain, saw 9 million coaches in the car park and thought: Feck that! And drove on.Got the ferry across the Shannon down to Dingle, and the R560 Conor Pass. We visited the Outlaws near Cork and then over to Rosslare for the ferry home.For anyone thinking the WAW is a technical route - it's not. Sections can be fun, but the weather can limit views when it's just grey foggy drizzle. It's a shame the ferry is so expensive and that adds a lot to an Irish roadtrip.If anyone is doing the 'North' WAW, I'd recommend leaving from Belfast (where the ferry is most likely to land) and heading to Larne (the other port) and drive the coast to Ballycastle, an underrated and often missed gem (don't get me wrong its busy but not as well known as other spots) that has amazing food and pubs, then travel on to the route above. The pub at Magilligan is great for food, and I you want to stop there are a few AirBNB nearby. And it has amazing views of the prison...We're from Belfast so Donegal is a well travelled destination but it's not what it was, my dad said it taught him how to change gear there were so many twists and turns and hills. But it is busy now and there a lots of cyclists to navigate.
