증상

타이어를 2개만 교체할 경우 어디에 장착해야 하는가에 대한 의문. 새 타이어를 앞에 장착하면 빗길에서 회전할 때 견인력을 잃을 수 있다는 우려. 브레이킹 성능이 영향을 받을 수 있다는 우려. 앞 타이어가 헌 타이어일 경우의 위험성.

처리 내용

공식적으로는 오버스티어(과도한 회전)를 방지하기 위해 더 좋은 타이어를 뒤에 장착해야 한다. 앞 타이어가 접지력을 잃으면(언더스티어) 자동차가 직진하거나 충돌할 때까지 계속 진행된다. 차량의 앞부분으로 충돌하는 것이 가장 안전하다. 반면 오버스티어가 발생하면 회복이 매우 어렵고 차량의 측면이나 후면으로 충돌할 가능성이 높다. 경험 많은 운전자이고 타이어가 심하게 닳지 않았다면 앞에 좋은 타이어를 장착해도 큰 문제가 아닐 수 있다. 뒤 타이어는 일반적으로 더 높은 네거티브 캠버를 가지고 있어 접지력이 더 좋다. 타이어를 한계까지 몰지 않는 한 문제가 발생하지 않을 것이다. 다만 비상 제동이나 회피 상황에서 제어력을 잃을 가능성이 더 높다. 구동륜에 더 좋은 타이어를 장착하는 것이 개인적인 권장사항이다.
