처리 내용
로터리 엔진은 여전히 오토 사이클 엔진(흡입, 압축, 점화, 배기)이지만 밸브 제어식 왕복 엔진과는 다르게 행정을 수행한다. 주요 결함: 1) 낮은 압축비 - 높은 압축비는 다른 수정 없이도 더 많은 출력을 제공한다. 압축비 1포인트당 약 3% 출력 증가. 로터리 엔진의 압축비는 약 6.98:1로, 일반 피스톤 엔진보다 3-4포인트 낮으며 증가시킬 여지가 거의 없다(마쓰다는 10:1까지 달성). 2) 연소실의 형태 - 로터리 엔진의 고유한 형태로 인해 공기/연료 혼합기가 점화될 때(3~4 사이클 사이) 화염 전파가 비효율적으로 진행되어 불완전 연소 및 에너지 손실 발생.
