증상

자동차 타이어의 적정 공기압에 대해 두 가지 서로 다른 최대 공기압 등급이 있음. 하나는 운전석 도어에 붙어있는 자동차 제조사 공기압 등급이고, 다른 하나는 타이어 옆면에 표기된 타이어 제조사 공기압 등급임. 타이어를 채울 때 어느 등급을 따라야 하는가?

처리 내용

타이어는 권장치보다 높거나 낮은 다양한 압력으로 운행 가능함. 과압은 타이어 중앙부 마모를 야기하지만 견고한 타이어 특성으로 서킷 주행이나 평탄한 노면에 유리함. 저압은 타이어 측면 마모를 야기하고 사이드월을 약하게 하여 타이어가 움직임이 많아지므로 울퉁불퉁한 노면에서 충격 흡수에 유리함. 타이어 제조사 등급은 타이어 마모를 방지하기 위한 최대치 기준이며, 자동차 제조사 등급은 차량 무게와 서스펜션 특성 등을 고려한 조종성과 승차감 기준임. 예를 들어 차량 권장 공기압이 후륜 32psi, 전륜 34psi이더라도 개인의 조종성 선호도에 따라 후륜 36psi, 전륜 38psi으로 사용할 수 있으며, 이는 더 좋은 코너링 특성과 약간의 오버스티어 경향을 제공함. 단, 타이어 제조사 권장 최대치는 절대 초과하면 안 됨.
